As the mother of an 11 and a 14 year old I am acutely aware of kids and teens addictions to 'plug into power' devises such as computers, Playstations, Xbox and so on.

Sometimes I think that if I cut the power in the middle of a game my son's heart might actually stop.

But like most parents, I am by necessity evil.

I know that the best way to get them to do what I need them to do is to pull the plug. Problem is that they, being born of evil, plug it straight back in the minute I leave the room.

This is why parents need to restore the balance of power in their home with the "Domestic Power Lockout" devise.

Back Information

In my research I see that electricians have industrial devises (see photos) that one threads the socket end into a "plastic madden", the device is closed and locked with a padlock or similar.

Design Ideas - Differentiators

The Domestic Power Lockout should secure the socket end in the same or similar manner but needs to include the lock as part of the unit (barrel lock or key lock) after all, parents might need to creep around under cover of darkness to capture the power, so an all in one unit would be best.

It should also include a way to let the child know how long the lock will be in place (a timer?)

It could include an area to make a note if required such as "When you make your bed you can have power again".

The more fun you make it the better the parents will take to it!

Other Uses and Markets

I am convinced that there are other (less demonic) uses for this Power Lockout Devise such as in the office, as an example when techs are working on a computer - and need to go to lunch without fear someone will power up the devise.

Future associated products

Lockouts for cell phones
Lockouts for portable games
Lockouts for other types of cords.
Lockouts for Anti Theft

I look forward to your ideas and inspirations!

I am a lazy bachelor.

Cooking at home, I like to make soup (tomato) and I like sauce (spaghetti), but standing over a hot stove sucks. I would rather be watching tv without risking burnt soup all over the bottom over the pot.

This simple device is made of 3 simple parts and makes standing over the stove, burning the pan and missing my movie a thing of the past.

The stirriffic sauce is made of (1) Clamp that fixes to side of pan. (2) gyroscopic arm connected to clamp that stirs the soup or sauce (3) a timer that rings so I know that the soup is ready.

Think infomercial where the audience screams "it's not just good.......its stirriffic!!!"

Perfect for Bachelors, Mothers with kids, college kids you name it. I also think that it will sell like hot cakes at Christmas and Thanskgiving just in food prep, not to mention gifts.

I hope I get selected.

You know when you go the beach, and you just cant reach that spot on your back to apply the sunscreen? or you are getting dressed in the morning, and can't reach that spot on your back to apply your daily body lotion?
Well sometimes you'll ask a friend for help, but sometimes you are alone, or don't want that rando dude (or gal) rubbing lotion onto your back. What if there were a apparatus that helped you rub lotion (we're talking sunscreen, body lotion...) in those far to reach places? Yes, there are some lotion sprays, but those always end in uneven tan lines (or burns) because you fail to rub them in. Maybe like a paint roller for personal lotion application? or some thing - small of course, could easily fit in a beach bag.

There's gotta be a product we can build to help this.....

The Ultimate Safety Kit for Snow (and Inclement Weather)Be Prepared

Be Prepared

The Quirky community has waited, patiently, to see this idea re-submitted. I've waited, patiently, for a more seasonally-appropriate time to submit it!

Previously known as "The Snowmancer," (car cover specifically designed for autos driven in snowy weather), it now is known as the The Ultimate Safety Kit for Snow (and Inclement Weather). T.U.S.K.S.

Driving in climates that have fierce and ferocious weather storms, blizzards, hail, icy rain, and sleet can be dangerous. Roads get slick, visibility can be diminished, and drivers are often caught unprepared. Cars slide off the roads, get stuck, and unprepared drivers find themselves trying to flag down others who are prepared.

T.U.S.K.S. would be a fairly small and light-weight box with all the essentials any driver who lives or travels through areas prone to inclement weather would need. Which items, specifically, it would include will be up to the quirky community. Some possible ideas:

  • Super Awesome Traction Pads for getting stuck cars with spinning wheels unstuck. No team of people to push out a car? My dad used to carry old scrap carpet in his truck, but any "roll up" similarly-textured material (even a variety of nubbed plastic) could work
  • Super Awesome Snow Brush & Scraper Tool, designed for both durability and comfort of use
  • Shovel of course. Who normally carries a shovel around? This could be a specially-designed-for snow shovel (mini, without a huge handle) of tough plastic.
  • Neon-Bright Emergency Rescue Flag, for when all else fails.
  • What else?

This would be a small, handy box that easily fits into the trunk of a car, one that contains a slew of special items for drivers in snowy climates. Another defining/cool feature is that it could also contain a spot (fabric + velcro-straps for tie-down?) for drivers to add their own rope, first-aid kit, flashlights/batteries, poncho, whatever. All the tools and safety equipment in one easy place: T.U.S.K.S.

  • Where do you put your handbag when you have a passenger in the front seat?
How many times have you had your handbag on the front seat and it falls to the floor?

We need something very cool and smart that will attach the the headrest of the passenger seat that allows you to hook or place your handbag somewhere above/behind the center console/armrest. It could even attach to both headrests and form sort of a soft netting type of shelf that holds your handbag and makes it accessible.

I can't draw anything but I'm sure you "quirkies" can help me with that.

The “BEER BUDDIES” are two products in one, designed to be ultra simple and effective products for spectators that provide advertising vehicles to sponsors and teams. “BEER BUDDIES” will make your day at the big game much more enjoyable . . . and easier!

"BEER BUDDY - Folding Drink Carry" allows stadium spectators at their favorite game to carry their drinks one handed, leaving their spare hand for food or other items, and carry up to 4 drinks at once!

Currently most stadium supply flimsy cartons or holders to carry your beers or drinks back to your seat. They are often unable to be carried one handed and cannot be printed (as they are not flat), therefore do not have the opportunity for advertising or branding!

You then return to your seat for a hands free experience, even when a drink holder is provided. Some stadiums don’t have drink holders with their seating, and even if they do, you might want more than one drink at a time or a container of popcorn as well!

“BEER BUDDY - Seat Drink Holder” is the answer and also makes drinks stay cooler longer, without having to frequently bend over and put your drink on the ground. Although drinks need to be removed before standing, they are more obvious to you and less likely to be knocked over under the seat at the game!

“BEER BUDDIES”” have the following benefits:
    • Very low production and set up costs
    • Simple and easy to use
    • Spectators at the big game enjoy themselves even more
    • Made from printable flat cardboard, corflute or plastic
    • Potentially consumable product, providing for future sales
    • Effective advertising medium
    • Product for brand identification with sponsors or teams
    • NO product competition

You sit on the couch with your sandwich or slice of pizza - where do you put your drink? On the floor? You'll kick it over. On the couch next to you? Don't move, or it will spill. This drink holder is a weighted bean bag built around a cup/can holder.

How many time do you spend trying to remember the keys to put a smile or other particular emoticon in messenger; skype; etc?
Its about time that we all have a keypad to make our life easier on this messaging world that we live in.

With the proper adjustments, an Emoticon Keypad becomes a tool to have for regular usage and with the proper driver, it can be full customized by the user, for example:
If you dont want to have the regular smile in the keypad, you can change it to a kiss sender emoticon! Simple or what?

When you dont want to have the emoticons, you may also click on the switcher and transform it into a number keypad!!!!!

This product is simple, affordable, and targeted to everyone in the world who has a pc and likes to chat...how many are out there? MILLIONS, GAZZILLIONS!

To see exactly what i'm talking about, please check the pictures i've made.

IMPORTANT: This time lets assume all the improvements sugested in the last voting, as well, as the fact that it might not be a product that you wont buy, but you might not be the target.
It was also clear that this would need a website associated and OLed keys in it.
And please do not ask me about Quirky regulations. I've asked them (Quirky) everytime i wanted to post this idea, and they havent denied me...cool?

    Lets do this! :D

The Chopstork is half chopstick, half fork. The spork is so 1800s; it's time for something new in dining technology. Plus Japanese stuff is way hip these days. Learn to use chopsticks knowing a fork's got your back.

The Chopstork is a pair of chopsticks connected at the top by a flexure. Coming out of the flexure in the opposite direction is the working end of a fork. The flexure holds the chopsticks—you just pinch them together to grab your food, and when you let go they spring back open.

Besides being a great novelty item, the Chopstork helps beginners learn to use chopsticks. It's like chopstick training wheels. Nothing new—flexed chopsticks have been helping Asian kids and white people use chopsticks for years. But with the Chopstork, if the task at hand proves too much and the veggie tempura beckons, the fork is there to save the meal.

    The extras:
The chopstork could have several versions. It could be a one-piece reusable. It could be disposable. It could be an attachment used on regular chopsticks. It could be a one-piece disposable that breaks apart to be used as regular chopsticks. There could be a miniature camping model so campers aren't forced to eat kabobs when the other stick gets lost in the bag.

If you've ever carried a child in a Bjorn or similar harness, then you know the child is strapped to your chest facing forward. As a result you CAN NOT see their faces. You don't know if they are asleep, just being quiet, (or stopped breathing altogether.) You don't know if they need their nose wiped. You don't know if they are comfortable.

The baby carrier mirror, would be a small mirror attached to the front of the sling (possibly by velcro) that you could hold up to see your baby's face while carrying them. I personally like the idea of having it on a retractable cord.

    USB Flash Disk Business Cards

See Attached Photo for a rough idea of the USB Business Card.

The idea is instead of giving out paper/cardboard business cards give people USB Business Cards.

Companies already give out free USB Flash Disks to their employees, clients, interns and to consumers so why not take this concept and use it personally ? So Why Not USB Flash Disk Business Cards ?

Of course you don’t give these to EVERYONE but there are certain people that deserve a special business card, especially if they are going to bring business to you or are very important to you.

Advantages of USB Flash Disk Business Cards :

It won’t be thrown away or forgotten. In fact it would be used over and over again (why waste a perfectly good flash disk ?) and every time they use it they remember you.

Flash Disk are often passed around, thus your business card is passed around as well.

You’ll be the coolest person on the block.

Plus, if ever you need a USB flash drive, just open your wallet and bring out your business card.

It is small enough to be placed inside the wallet but too useful that they tend to stay outside of wallet where they could be seen (which is what you like since you want more people to see your business card). [We could sell them in packs of 10 pcs in a small box for easy transportation]

Plus you can put files about your company and promo materials in it as well when you give it away. “Oh by the way, inside my business card you’ll find everything you need about my company”.

Plus the cost of Flash Disks today is very cheap if not dirt cheap, with flash disk of 256MB costing around $.50 cents only (China) and I’m sure the quirky team can find even cheaper ones. What we do is that we source a certain design of USB Flash Disk (see attached photos) and then print/etch/engrave the Business Card design via a machine. I'm pretty sure the technology is there.

    Other Notes :

I did some looking around the internet and there is nobody selling USB Flash Disk Business cards although there are some concepts floating around already and I found a Chinese USB (included in the attachments) but it is just a flash disk that has their name imprinted on it. I'm looking at a card (see photoshopped samples I did) for this idea.

How I am envisioning the product :

We would have a website/store where people could order USB Business Cards in sets of 20,50 & 100 pcs. They either select a template place their names and company logo or make their own design. We would print it/engrave it /etch it on a blank USB Business Card. We could either have it printed/engraved/etched the United States where we could deliver it within 1 week or less to the buyer. We could have centers in the Philippines catering to Asia & Pacific and other centers around the world so that we could reduce the cost of shipping.

    Target Markets :

People are always trying to look for ways to make them standout and this product allows them to do that. So we could sell this to entrepreneurs. They'll think of this as an investment. It is relatively cheap (better and memorable than buying someone wine or something like that)

Alternatively we could sell tons of these in large companies such as P&G, Unilever, Intel, IBM etc, they could afford it, it gives them status and it is useful.

So what do you guys think ?
