Its time to begin exploring MichaelT’s Flexible Peeler. For this round we are looking for functional solutions heavily based in engineering and material thinking. So if you or anyone you know is an engineer, this is the round for you! Of course, if you have good old-fashioned lateral thinking, this is also your chance to grab influence.
We have a narrow focus for this phase: coming up with solutions for a blade that can flex to the various curvatures of fruit and vegetables that you are peeling. This blade needs to be able to conform to anything from a carrot (smaller diameter) to a potato (larger diameter). It will need to engage with the fruit/vegetable being peeled in a way that lends itself to removing the top surface of the fruit/veg. Usually this is achieved by angling the blade surface to that of the vegetable. However, there may be other ways of achieving this.
Other areas to think about are how you hold the peeler, what size it is, what materials we should use. But the focus should be the flexible blade and potential ways we can execute this concept.
