Pen Zen

Recap:
We all have tons of pens lying around, mostly occupying often used drawers, or being stacked in some sort of funny cup-like holder... Either way it's a messy gang, most of them being cheap (usually promotional) biros, many of them dried up.

To help maintain an overview of this Pen-o-mania, the disPENser is an outcome. It's no more than a thin (plastic or cardboard?) container, holding the pens in a neat orderly vertical fashion. The pens are stacked on top of eachother, and when needed, you just grab the bottom one. When finished writing, put the pen back at the top, and this way all pens are used through time, instead of only the ones being nearby.

Magic Fingers!

Submitted By Brad Beesley | 24 Comments

This is less a "dispenser" and more of a piece of functional art.

Soft silicone tentacles grip any pencil, pen, or similar object. This holder allows for random access of any instrument you would like to use. The "dispenser" will work in any orientation: hung on a wall, placed flat on a desk, or standing up.

For drama, lighting could be incorporated and will allow the tentacles to glow.

To illustrate the concept, I rendered the design with a polished aluminum holder, but it could be any material. I envision various sizes and shapes, or the ability to join units together for long blocks, or large square, etc. Or the tentacle holder could be flexible, allowing the owner to create their own freeform sculpture.

This device can also hold business cards, an iPod or iPhone, a deck of Post-Its, or pretty much anything that would fit in the slot.

The fingers are very flexible and will not harm any surface. The tentacles could be molded in any color, or you could purchase different color inserts.

Imagine cylinder with an opening at one end that when shaken, will only dispense one pen per shake. This design would be cheap, simple, and effective. To store the pen, just put it back in the hole.

This dispenser can be attached to a desk or a bookshelf, for easy access. Easy to use in offices and schools. Clean modern design. The bottom functions similar to the Penboard. On top there is some extra room for stuff to have close at hand (for some that is that one red pen ;-) for others an eraser or post-its.

A free standing version. At the back two little legs can be expanded so it can stand on his own.

Imagine a paper soda cup from almost any restaurant. There is a cylindrical cup, a lid and a straw that goes through the center. In this design, pens would be arranged inside the "cup" and one would emerge at the top like a straw. When a pen is taken, a new pen emerges.

This is a quick design of the dispenser that includes a 5x7 frame on the front. I think that would allow every person to customize their dispenser. Also the idea of picking your own color of faceplate would be unique.

It is a stool that allows the lid to get transformed into a library or an organizer.

This concept integrates an openable front with a way to keep the pens in there, even when it's hanging. See attached drawing for additional details.
