	A surfboard. And it got dinged on it's maiden voyage! That dumass!... There I was paddling out for the first time on this brand new Channel Islands board (this is when Tom Curren was king), and I got caught inside as a set approached. Then, some older local dude decided to drop in on a closeout right in front of me-on a longboard, no less! Well, I dove and when I came up it was like a shark took a bite out of my new board. I was probably about 16 and saved up like 500 hard-earned bucks for that board! I remember wishing there was insurance for such cases, or a court room. But no. He just paddled back out and I had to paddle back in. Worst of all, the waves were good that day!
