Gabe Ochoa

Gabe Ochoa staff front large

Gabe is an Austin, TX born Mechanical Engineer who took a cabinet door off with a phillips head screw driver just after his second birthday and has been tearing things apart and putting them back together ever since. He is obsessed with new technology and uses it to design, prototype, and build out new products. When he is not CADing, soldering, or hacking together a new product, you can find him building out and fighting a small fleet of battle bots. Before Quirky, Gabe went to school at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he helped run the Georgia Tech Invention Studio. He has previously interned at frog design and Mercedes-Benz US Manufacturing.

Product Manager - Connected Home Devices [SF] - San Francisco

The Company:

We are Quirky.

We make invention accessible.
We believe that the best ideas in the world aren’t actually in the world--they’re locked in people’s heads.

Quirky brings new consumer products to market every week.  Some of the best industrial designers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing experts come together to take ideas from concept to prototype - then to mass production - at a pace others said wasn’t possible.

Today you’ll find Quirky’s products on the shelves of major retailers such as Target, Home Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Best Buy.

The Candidate:

Quirky is unlike any other product company. We don’t spend a year debating product color or constantly changing scope. A good idea gets prototyped, quickly vetted, and a solid plan is put in place to get it on shelves fast. We achieve this by building a team of experienced, empowered product leaders.

You’ll immerse yourself in the products you manage and will be the subject expert on the market, competitive landscape, and product features. You’ll create the compelling story around the products you manage and make the business case for development. You’ll then drive feature trade-offs with engineering and our manufacturing partners to keep a product within cost targets + on schedule – while fighting for a user experience that delights.

You will play an early role in brainstorming discussions and product concept reviews to provide a perspective on what features should be considered for a quality experience. You have a constant curiosity to evaluate new technologies and competitive products.

After your first year Quirky, you’ll be able to walk through a major retail store and point to numerous products that you helped bring to market.

The position can be based in Quirky’s new San Francisco engineering center, or the New York product design headquarters.

The Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience
  • A history of shipping reliable consumer products that customers love.
  • Clear, efficient communication skills.  The ability to tell a great story around your product.
  • Ability to put a solid business plan together for the products you drive
  • Comfortable interacting within all levels of the organization
  • Unrelenting curiosity and pride in building awesome products
  • Can interface with overseas manufacturing partners (ODMs or contract manufacturers) – with travel to these sites as necessary

Extra Points:

Experience in any of the following areas:

  • Product engineering, design, project management, product testing, or product support
  • Start-up experience (particularly hardware products)

The Application:

Submit your resume in PDF format and tell us about past project you shipped that you’re particularly proud of.

We are Quirky.

We exist to solve that problem.

http://www.quirky.com/

We’re looking for an amazing and passionate Project Manager to join our team in San Francisco.

The Candidate:

You are passionate about Quirky, and building new products. You get excited about design and manufacturing, just as much as you get excited about gantt charts, dependencies spreadsheets and crunching numbers. You are super organized, and enjoy plotting out your own as well as other peoples’ schedules. You are a deal hunter, always looking for ways to save money and cut expenses. As a point of contact between manufacturers and key stakeholders in the NYC and SF office, you are relied on for your communication skills, your honesty, and your ability to admit when things go wrong. In your conversations you get to the point quickly, and know how to tune the content of your conversation to the people around you. You love getting down to the details, but you also know how to see and communicate the bigger picture.  You like to keep it brief at all times and get to the bottom of things quickly; afterall, your schedule is packed (you prefer it that way). You are constantly thinking of ways to make the Quirky wheels run more quickly and efficiently. You live in the NYC/SF area, but you work in three different time zones (New York, San Francisco and China). You have a way with people, and prefer collaboration to independent research. You thrive in an environment where there are no walls and prefer to over-communicate and think out loud, raising concerns and bouncing ideas off of others at any time.

The Job:

As our Program Manager, you will

  • Be a member of Quirky's Product team reporting to Quirky's Manager of Program Management
  • Manage product development projects from concept to store shelves
  • Act as the main source for updates and communication regarding product development, production & manufacturing, partners, and vendors

Program Manager (Consumer Electronics) - New York City, San Francisco

The Company:

We are Quirky.

We make invention accessible.

We believe that the best ideas in the world aren’t actually in the world--they’re locked in people’s heads.

We exist to solve that problem.

http://www.quirky.com/

We’re looking for an amazing and passionate Project Manager to join our team in NYC.
