Here is where we are at with the latest sample of the Trek Support backpack:
The general consensus is that the architecture, pocket placement, and cord management is solid. Just need to refine the front 'duffle' portion.
Vertical Zipper vs Horizontal Zipper - the vertical orientation is beneficial to the shape of the bag and works better functionally (the top portion opens up nice and wide making packing really easy)
Currently the plastic side squeeze buckle is the focal point of the bag, bit we will look into a more refined closure solution.
Duffle 'face' is looking a bit busy - we are going to find a way to clean it up and simplify. We are also going to explore hiding the handles when they're not in use and reworking the pattern break up.
'Rain Fly' - we have added a rip stop 'rain fly' (basically it's a hair net) that covers and conceals the backpack straps when carrying the bag in the 'duffle' configuration. This also prevents the back from getting dirty when placed on the ground. This part would basically be stowed (and stitched) inside one of the seams on the bottom of the bag, so you just deploy it when necessary.
